WIZARD DISPOSABLE PEN PLATER

The Wizard Disposable Pen Plater is a safe and economical way to add 24 karat gold accents such as you see in the images here. The color richness can be equal to that of Accent Gold for Silver™ (AGS™), but is more appropriate for highlights on items such as pendants, earrings and the recessed areas on rings where rubbing or abrasion is not an issue.

Gold applied with the pen can be modified further with the use of liver of sulphur to attain some of the effects you see here. You can see that both the silver AND the gold take on coloration differences depending on how the liver of sulphur is applied. Testing reveals that while liver of sulphur is effective with the 24 karat gold applied with the pen, other chemicals such as BlackMax™ used for modifying the color on silver are not effective and should be avoided on areas plated with the pen.

The Wizard Disposable Pen Plater is not a substitute AGS™, but is another effective tool for the creation of jewelry and other objects. It is safe to use and long lasting. It does not require heat to apply and the unit is completely self contained and totally portable.

The most effective method of application is to first finish the silver surface to be plated with either a satin or high polish.  The gold plating will be the same (shiny or satin) as the silver beneath it. Make sure the piece is very clean before applying the 24 karat gold with the pen. Clean the area to be plated with alcohol or acetone on a Q-tip and allow to air dry.

Tumbling the piece with steel shot or burnishing with a steel burnishing tool after the gold is applied is fine and will bring out the color. However, abrasive finishing techniques of any kind will most likely remove the gold, but this can be an additional finishing step. With abrasives, gold color can be removed from areas that compliment the design of the piece.  If the gold is accidentally removed during finishing, you can easily reapply with the pen.
